OVER 100 YEARS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Our congregation began in 1890 when Norwegian immigrants to Astoria felt a need and longing to get together with other Christians to encourage one another in their faith in Jesus.
OUR CHURCH ASSOCIATION
Our congregation belongs to the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC). The AFLC has a headquarters, seminary and Bible college in Plymouth, Minnesota. The AFLC also serves the Lord through mission work throughout the U.S. and around the world.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD
We believe the Bible is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, without error, the authority we are to follow and the good news we trust in. “All Scripture is God-breathed …” (II Timothy 3:16).
JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD
We believe Jesus is the Son of God, who became man, and is true God and true man. He died on the cross for our sins and rose again from the dead. Our hope for salvation is in Christ alone. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6).
WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE
We believe in God’s grace alone – His undeserved goodness toward us – and not in our works. We believe in faith alone. Our trust is in what Christ has done and not in what we do. We believe in God’s Word alone as the source of truth, and not in human traditions or ideas.
CONGREGATIONS ARE IMPORTANT
We believe it is crucial for people to be a part of a congregation, to join together with others to worship the Lord, to learn together, to build each other up and to face the challenges of life together. “Let us not give up meeting together … but let us encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25).
